The Jefferson Cup was designed by our third President, Thomas Jefferson. Nothing is quite so classic as these practical cups which reflect our American colonial heritage. Our satin finished pewter Jefferson Cup is a fine reproduction of those first made in 1810. The history behind the famous Jefferson cup: Thomas Jefferson’s friend and teacher, George Wythe, passed away in 1806, willing him two silver cups . Preferring a more modern style, he set out to have them redesigned. So he sent them off to Virginia silversmith, John Letelier, instructing him to melt the cups and remake them into a more popular tumbler design. Eight low, round-bottomed cups were crafted and returned to Monticello by 1810. These cups were Jefferson’s family favorites. Certainly your family will love them, too!
